2Title:  Cleveland Water Department and Lakefront Park Photographs

 Abstract:  In 1925, the Cleveland Water Department opened the Baldwin Water Treatment Plant in the Fairfax neighborhood on the border of Cleveland Heights. Supplying water to the Baldwin facility was the Kirtland Pump Station located on Lakefront Road at E. 49th Street. Just east of the Kirtland Station was Gordon Park Beach, which was a 122-acre recreational area along the lakefront on the eastern side of E. 72nd Street. Euclid Beach Park was located on the southern shore of Lake Erie at E. 156th St. and Nottingham Rd., about 8 mi. from Public Square. On the west side of Cleveland and adjacent to the Division Avenue Treatment Plant (now known as the Garrett Morgan facility), Edgewater Park was purchased in 1894 by the city's Second Park Board from Jacob B. Perkins, Cleveland industrialist. The collection consists of 53 black and white photographs illustrating Baldwin Water Treatment facility, the construction of bulkheads along the shoreline at the Kirtland Pump Station, and Edgewater, Euclid Beach, and Gordon Parks.

 Abstract:  William J. Gordon donated his estate at his death in 1892 to the city of Cleveland, Ohio. It became a public park with recreational facilities. In 1978, its lakefront section became a part of Lakefront State Park, administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Inland portions remained under the jurisdiction of the city of Cleveland. The collection consists of views of Gordon Park, Cleveland, Ohio. It includes views of the estate of William J. Gordon and the development of the estate as a Cleveland city park. The views include Doan brook, the harbor, beach, pier, lighthouse, and bathhouse.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland, Ohio, branch of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) is the local branch of an international civic and social organization for men and boys. It was established in 1854 and quickly expanded to include numerous branches throughout the Cleveland area which offer a full range of community, recreational and educational activities. The collection consists of photographs of YMCA functions, facilities, and past presidents and other officials. Includes loose photographs and 2 unbound scrapbooks. Photographs include the Fenn Hall and Central YMCA buildings, the Lakewood West Side and the Collinwood branches; East End photographs, photographs of a YMCA building being built, various unidentified group portraits, and one photo of Billy Sunday and Douglas Fairbanks playing baseball for the YMCA. Activities pictured include swimming, athletics, camping, and classes. Many interior views of YMCA facilities are included.
